Can you imagine a life without the ability to read? We can’t either. Unfortunately, the illiteracy statistics are staggering—even here in Canada:
• 43% of Canadians are functioning at very low levels of literacy
• 60% of immigrants in Canada have low literacy skills
We can change this!
Baby Bookworms & Beyond provides dynamic programs and events that connect children, teens, seniors, families, educators, and businesses, with the goal of developing vibrant, literate communities and growing life-long readers.
The JOY of reading is at the heart of each program!
We have a wonderful space in Mississauga, “The Story Garden”, where we run our non-profit programs and events:
•Storytime Stop – A weekly celebration of reading with stories, songs, and games for families with young children.
•Leaders for Readers – A shared reading program that connects high school teens with struggling readers in primary grades.
•Tag-Team Tutoring – A one-on-one, customized program to help children to become successful, life-long readers.
•Wee Readers – a preschool story time with local seniors.
These are just a few of the regular weekly activities at The Story Garden. Visit our web page for more info and an up-to-date schedule or drop by during our drop-in-and-read times. We’re also always looking for enthusiastic volunteers and donations of funds or books. We hope to see you soon!
