New moms listened attentively to the discussion as there can be some mystery and hesitation with this new terminology “baby-led-weaning”. Moms with babies around the 6 month age are introducing pureed foods, as recommended by doctors, while those with babies around the 8 month mark are allowing their babies to join in at the family dinner table and taste test what everyone else is eating.
Weaning simply means the progression from breast or bottle to a sippy cup, then making solids the major component of a child’s meal. Moms are letting their baby take the lead with great success!
The moms in our Baby Basic group suggest presenting the following foods on baby’s tray and cut them in strips so that baby can easily grasp them: vegetables such as carrots, squash, sweet potato and broccoli. Baby may start with sucking the juices out of meats such as chicken and steak but it’s all about learning. Fish is a great finger food too! Babies will enjoy fruits such as blueberries where they get to develop their fine motor skills, as well as strips such as cantaloupe, watermelon and pears.
Keeping with the season, our Baby Picassos made adorable pumpkins! Look at the fun we're having!
