In honour of Easter, momstown Mississauga mamas got creative by making Easter Basket Sugar Cookies.
This recipe is quick and easy, with store bought cookie dough and lots of fun and simple steps for your little one to participate!
Tube of sugar cookie dough Decorative sugar sprinkles in colour(s) of choice 1/4 cup of shredded coconut 2-3 drops of green food colouring Store bought frosting (or your favourite homemade buttercream) Jelly beans Shoelace licorice
Preheat oven to 375, or the temperature suggested on the tube of cookie dough
Cut the tube of sugar cookie dough into 24 portions
Roll each portion of dough into a ball, coat in decorative sugar and place into a section of a mini muffin tin
Place tin into oven and cook for 10 minutes, or as long as suggested on the tube of cookie dough. Do not let the cookies overcook and become crunchy; they will need to remain soft
While the cookies are baking place the shredded coconut into a baggie and put in a couple drops of green food colouring. Close the bag and have your child massh it around, to dye all of the coconut
Remove cookies from the oven and immediately press a dent into each one, so it forms into the shape of a basket. Let cookies cool completely
Place some frosting into a piping bag (or a small baggie with one bottom corner snipped off, to form a piping bag) and pipe a small amount into each cookie basket
Place a small amount of your coconut "grass" on top of frosting
Place 2-3 jelly beans onto the coconut "grass"
Add a piece of shoelace licorice into the frosting as the basket's handle
